Rousing conversation is guaranteed at the Dogfish Head Alehouse every Tuesday night after class. The recent crowds have included Jean, Joe, Tom, Sonja,Michelle, Connie, Kate, Dan O’C, Jack, Emmett, Obie, Roger, and Marilyn O. Join in on the fun after the next class!
Tom, Sonja, Bill, Maddy, Judy, Michelle, Bobbie, and Maura gathered for our First Saturday Brunch at the Woodside Deli in Germantown on October 7th. Next one: Saturday (naturally), November 4th. See you there!
The next class for the Irish Identity students is on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:15 at the O’Brien’s. We will look again at W.B. Yeats and hear all about Lady Gregory. You can still join this stimulating group discussion. Contact Marilyn for details.
Obie, the coordinator of the Blackthorn Ceilis, reports that everything is in place for the Halloween Ceili on Friday, October 27th at McCathran Hall in Washington Grove, from 7 – 10:30 pm. Our good friend, Marilyn Moore, will be back on the floor calling the dances, and top musicians, Tina, Marc, and Philippe will be playing the tunes. For the dance list and other details, click on the Events Calendar.
The Emerald Isle Club of Baltimore held their monthly ceili at a new location on Saturday, October 7. The lovely Atlantic Ballroom, with a beautiful wooden floor, in Towson, Maryland will now be the home to the EIC’s monthly dance. Tom and Sonja enjoyed the new venue and loved seeing the large crowd and lively Teelin School dancers.
This is a great way to reinforce what you've learned in class - come out to these and the GWCC ceilis!
If you happened to drive down Hummingbird Terrace on Saturday, October 7th, you would have seen Evelyn hard at work selling many of her household goods at a yard sale. And she has a good reason for clearing out the house. On November 1st Evelyn and Tim will be heading south to Alabama to begin a new venture in their lives. Tim is retiring and they will be re-locating---eventually to Tennessee. The RKIDs are sad to see her leave. The kindness she has shown to other members, the enthusiasm she put into the cook book fund raiser, and the effort she has put into becoming an Irish ceili dancer and performer will never be forgotten. She made a great impact on this organization and our deepest thanks go out to her for being an RKID. We all wish Evelyn and Tim the very best.
On Saturday, October 7, Dan M, Maura, and her husband Larry, were in attendance as the Folklore Society of Greater Washington presented a memorial concert and CD release party for Claude Martin at The Blackrock Center. There were performances by The Martin Family String band, Robbie Caruthers, Ralph Gordon, and Matt Kinman. "It was a great tribute to a talent gone too soon, and to the music family that organized it,” commented Maura.
RKIDs don’t just dance---they travel. Currently, you will find Emmett in San Francisco touring with his grandsons; Emma and Jerry in Michigan visiting with his family; Marie V in Seattle playing with her grandchildren; and Kate and Dan O’C in Marquette, Michigan catching up with her son, Cody, and stopping off to visit Mackinaw Island. Former members, Sharon C and Chris N, are traveling in the Holy Land with friends.
Closer to home, Evan and his daughter Jesse camped out at Assateague National Park near Ocean City, Maryland; Jean, Joe, Marilyn O, and Obie spent time at their beach houses in Bethany Beach, Delaware; and Emmett popped in and out of his house in Greensboro, Maryland.
