Hoisting at Finnegan's Wake

On Saturday at Finnegan’s Wake, the new Irish pub in Rockville, were Evan and Sandy, Joe and Jean, Mary Ann and Dick, Michelle, Kathryn, Madelyn and Bill, gathered around a bar-stooled great table. Some among the group tested the Guinness and Black and Tan ($7) pours for a couple of hours, which lubricated the conversation nicely. One of us had an Irish coffee, but it was nothing like what Roger and Dan concoct (see the recipe in our cookbook). The food offering mainly consisted of burgers, fish and chips (crispy enough, with a side of red slaw), salads and variations on the Quebecois poutine dish (gravy, cheese curds and fries).  The tile floor and hard surfaces made it difficult to hear, especially since there were a lot of other customers also talking loudly. The small kitchen took over half an hour to serve lunch to the ten of us. The Irish décor is minimal; a modern look is highlighted by two unisex restrooms (one gender occupancy at a time, please). No separate checks! Despite the minor disappointments, Evan found it all worthwhile because of the “terrific RKIDs' company.”

Performing at Southern MD

The next performance of the RKIDs’ performers is at the Southern Maryland Celtic Festival on Saturday, April 30. This is a lovely festival with a rich variety of Celtic music, dance, and entertainment. Chuck and Maureen are holding a practice at Sharon and Chris’s on Wednesday, April 13.

 Celebrations

Grandchild Cakes by Sandy

Evan and Sandy will soon be grandparents! Their daughter, Hillary, is having a baby boy in the next few weeks. There is great excitement about the new arrival and Sandy made a special cake to celebrate.

Carolyn the Many
A former member of the RKIDs, Carolyn Greenspan, the daughter of Kathryn, was recently highlighted in work newsletter. Here are just a few of the glowing praises for Carolyn. “Many times I wonder if there is one Carolyn or three. She is energetic, committed, and proactive….you’ll see her whiz by working directly with young people, working with the development team, and engaging the…staff. Students and staff feel as if they can rely on her and she is supportive of our students and she has an understanding that is beyond measure….Carolyn is a fabulous team-player….a perfect combination of energy, enthusiasm, care, and commitment….she is so conscientious, smart, kind, organized, and dependable. I could go on and on!”   By Ann Hageage, External Partnerships & Community Schools Director.

 Convalescing

convalescing

Dan O’C continues a slow improvement to his heart troubles. He’s been seen walking in his neighborhood and driving off to doctor’s appointments. All the RKIDs send their prayers and thoughts your way, Dan. And to Kate who is his No. 1 nurse.

Marilyn O is recovering from her bout with bronchitis and asthma, but is filled with disappointment as she had to cancel her trip to Cuba.
