Remembering Jean Woods

Jean Taylor Mills Woods, age 80, passed away peacefully the evening of Thursday, November 7, 2024 after a long illness.

Jean was born in New York to Roy Vernon and Florence Taylor Mills. She graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara and earned a Master of Science in Library Science from Catholic University. She spent her career in the U.S. Copyright Office for the Library of Congress. Jean went back to work part-time as a reference librarian for Montgomery College in Germantown, Maryland and retired from work in June 2013. She loved to travel, living in Spain in her youth, going on Safari after retirement and on many adventurous trips with family. She was with her husband, Joe Woods for thirty years until his death in 2020. Joe and Jean met Irish Dancing and were both active members of the Ring of Kerry Irish Dancers. They enjoyed spending time at Bethany Beach and traveling together. Jean also sang with the Rockville Chorus. Friends and loved ones remember Jean’s infectious laugh and independent nature.

She is survived by sisters Mary Tuncer and Helen Iammarino and brother Ed Mills and wife Patricia, along with nieces Deniz Tuncer and Ayshe Tuncer, and nephews Damon and David Iammarino. Stepchildren Don Woods and Stephanie Dhue and her husband Noble and two grandchildren Emily and Helen Dhue.

Here are two fond video remembrances of Jean. Caroling with her at Asbury Methodist Village and this compilation of her singing and Irish-dancing, ending with a tribute dance to her by her Ring of Kerry Irish Dancers friends:
