Shrine Mont Scouting Trip
In preparation for the May 20-22, 2016 25th Anniversary Weekend at Shrine Mont, Bill, Madelyn, Obie and Marilyn visited the retreat last Sunday. Donna, our contact at Shrine Mont, spent two hours showing them the facility and the buildings where we will be housed. Bill took photos, asked questions, checked the outlets, and in general we got much of the information we need for our celebration. On the way home, the group stopped at Kevin and Liz’s for a fabulous dinner. Good times all around.
Evelyn was at it again. This time she set up her cookbook sales table at the St. Francis Bazaar. Helping her were: Sonja, Obie, Marilyn O, and Kate. Also stopping by the table were Marie and Bobbie. Bob also came by with some additional decorating details for the table. It was a great group effort. Evelyn has good news to report about the sales: see our home page rainbow-mometer.
After class on November 10th Emmett, Obie, Marilyn O, Roger, Kathy, and David M solved the world problems at the Dogfish Head Alehouse. All are welcome every Tuesday after class.
Great to see Sharon C and Chris at class again.
Sharon P volunteered to host the next Steering Committee Meeting on November 30th. All members who have paid their dues are invited to the meeting. 7:30pm.
About Town
Here’s the story of Marilyn M and the Guinea Pig. Marilyn was out walking in Olney when she came upon a guinea pig near its play ball. Apparently someone had left it in the wild to survive on its own, but it was obvious to Marilyn there wasn’t much hope of survival. The guinea pig scurried off into the woods. Later Marilyn returned. No sign of the little critter. She called Montgomery County Animal Control, but, sadly, had no luck getting help. The following day she went looking for the animal again. Still no guinea pig. The ball was still there, but turned so that the little guy could not have gotten into it, even if he tried. Later she learned from Lauraileen O’Connor (a former member of the RKIDS) that there is a Maryland Guinea Pig Rescue organization. Next time Marilyn will know who to call.
Madelyn A met with 20 friends for a play group reunion at Not Your Average Joe’s. They formed 29 years ago as an outgrowth of a course given in Columbia, Maryland, when they were new mothers looking for support and friendship. Some of them had not seen each other for nearly 29 years.
Travel
David D, our very own blacksmith, is off on an adventure in Spain. For 21 days he will be walking along the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of St. James. During the Middle Ages, it was one of the most important Christian pilgrimage routes. The pathway now attracts modern-day pilgrims from around the world---including David. Best of luck to him. Here is a photo he posted to his Facebook page.
