Club Events
The Winter/Spring semester of RKIDs’ classes started on Tuesday, Jan. 5th. Lots of experienced dancers showed up as did two new dancers, Matt and Jackie. Welcome to the group! We reviewed the Lancers and Plain sets. Then after class, at our watering hole, Emmett, Roger, Obie, and Marilyn discussed Emmett’s upcoming climb at Mt. Kilimanjaro. A good time was had by all
There is still time to get tickets to see Cherish the Ladies at Black Rock Center for the Arts. As part of our 25th Anniversary celebration, we will attend the 3pm show on Sunday, Feb. 28th, followed by dinner at the nearby Ruby Tuesday. Go to blackrockcenter.org to order tickets. Various prices are still available.
Evelyn received a thank you note from St. Francis of Assisi for our participation in their Bazaar. We had a successful day selling cookbooks and appreciate the kindness and assistance shown to us by the church organizers.
Travel
Bill and Madelyn spent a few days seeing the sights in Philadelphia, including fireworks over the Philly waterfront and hoagies at the Reading Terminal. The highlight of the mini-vacation was the Mummer’s Parade. And a former member of the RKIDs, Colleen, was also there.
There is a rumor going around that Sharon C and Chris N have gone somewhere. Anyone know about this?
It’s that time of year and Florida is calling. Kevin and Liz are settled in with Liz’s sister, Mary, at a condo along the east coast.
About Town

One of our FRIENDS of the RKIDs, Judy A, published a poem (below) in the Fall/Winter 2015 edition of the JHU “Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Journal.” Osher is an organization which provides educational classes and experiences for seniors.
Chains, bells, oyster shells,
Masts, sails, aft, fore,
Patriot, Edna Lockwood, Winnie E.,
Crab, shrimp, rockfish.
The joy of a visit to a new place
Is the planting of new words
In the mixture of experience;
Seasoned by the locals
With foreign pace and cares.
Weathered, chipped, anchor, nautical,
Calm, foggy, captain,
Salty, rain, jacket, weather vane,
Nets, osprey, skipjack, decoy.
Passion.
Celebrations
Dan M. turned a vigorous 80 yo, and about 26 RKIDs came out to help him celebrate. Nancy M organized the surprise party. There was a group rendition of Oh Danny Boy that was not to be missed.
Speaking of birthdays, our webmaster, Bill, added a new feature to the RKIDs’ website. Go to ringofkerrydancers.org and click on Events; slide down to Events-calendar view; scroll through the months to see whose birthday is when. If you want your date added to the list, just contact Bill. More importantly, take time to congratulate an RKID who has such an upcoming special day.
Convalescing

What do Dan O’C, Sonja, and Jean Woods have in common? All were suffering from bad colds during the holidays. Hopefully, they will be better soon and back on the dance floor.
