 RKIDs Events

Our Tuesday night class drew a large group on Jan. 17th, including several people from the Frederick class: Josh and Carrie Jean, Susan, Marie D, and Connie (who has been a member of the RKIDs for several years, but attended the class in Frederick). It was great to see everyone. The Core Class polished up the Sweets of May and the Advanced Class finished the Carrowbeg Set.

 About Town

About Town

Marilyn O, Obie, Mary, and Michelle were spotted whooping it up at Hard Times Café in College Park after their team, the Maryland Women’s basketball team, defeated Michigan. And a surprise! Bob came to the game and Hard Times, too. (Not sure who he was cheering for seeing as he spent some time in Ann Arbor during his college days.)

 Travel

Sharon C. - Cliff Hanger

Sharon C and Chris have returned from their journey to Hawaii. Can’t wait to see their tans at class next week!

Florida is calling once again this year. People who are either in the Sunshine State or expect to be there in the next few of months are Kevin, Liz, Kate, Dan O’C, MaryAnn, Marilyn O, Christine, Mary, Nancy, and Jean. Anyone else? Did Emma and Jerry leave for Mexico? Each winter they spend a month or more in her native land. Marie will be leaving soon for Washington to visit the grandkids. She’s excited.

Mayflower Revealed

Sandy cannot believe all the history she is learning by reading Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War by Nathaniel Philbrick. From the book jacket: "How did America begin? That simple question launches the acclaimed author … on an extraordinary journey to understand the truth behind our most sacred national myth: the voyage of the Mayflower and the settlement of Plymouth Colony … the story of Plymouth Colony was a fifty-five year epic that began in peril and ended in war. New England erupted into a bloody conflict that nearly wiped out the English colonists and natives alike. These events shaped the existing communities and the country that would grow from them." Sandy highly recommends the book.

 Convalescing

convalescing

Kate had an allergic reaction to some medication and has been struggling to get back on her feet.

Kathryn’s granddaughter, Amelia, has pneumonia, which means Kathryn has gone into action as nursemaid. The little girl is improving – finally – after two doses of antibiotics.
